Tender Description
Ballina Byron Gateway Airport Terminal Upgrade
The Airport Terminal was constructed in 1995 and has had several additions and modifications
made since that date. In 2008, a 7.2-metre-wide extension was added to the western end of the
building and the baggage make-up area was added to the north-west corner including an air-conditioning
plant deck above a dropped down area of roof which replaced the original roof
structure.
In 2019 the building was extended to the south, enclosing the existing covered driveway roof area
and installing a new entry canopy beyond the existing roofline to the south. A cantilevered
awning was provided beyond new glazed walls, new automatic doors were provided for
departures and arrivals and a corridor established which provided access from Check-in to a
queueing space for Walk-Through Security and linked through to the Baggage Claim Area. The
departure lounge and security screening were reconfigured and extended. The concession
offerings were expanded and relocated into the departure lounge.
This project facilitates a security screening upgrade. It expands the building further to the south
replicating the profile of the previous expansion, with a new setdown awning over the widened
footpath. An eastern and western covered plaza adjacent to the entries is provided.
The existing security screening area is expanded and reconfigured to accommodate the
government mandated upgrade screening equipment.
